Clouds and Linings. For every gathering storm cloud you may have, someone else is already in the hurricane. Today I’m feeling grateful to still be working in an industry that I love despite thousands being stood down or losing their jobs. I’m grateful I can still contribute something to the recovery of the company I’ve dedicated over 2 decades of my life to. I’m grateful I can still laugh with friends, see my family, pat my reluctant cat and dream of a time we might be able to go on holiday again. . . . . . #travelstrong #flightielife #fctglife

Dodgy, smudgy, not perfect . But that’s life. I had binned this shot as it was a hand held grab shot that didn’t work. But after a month at home, I feel like I need to be a bit more forgiving. Nothing and nobody, not even my half hearted photography attempts, are perfect. But it’s better than nothing. Remember when you could look out of a plane window? That’s just one of the things I’m desperately missing right now - the excitement of looking out the window and getting an exciting glimpse of the adventure to come. Lost World 🦖🌴 There are spots in the Blue Mountains that thankfully escaped the horrific bushfires that swept through the region recently. During our stay at @spicerssangomaretreat we visited Scenic World for an adventure to the base of the cliffs and a lovely walk through the bush. There is a walkway the entire way which allows the wildlife to still roam around without being too bothered by humans. Apparently no trees were cut to make way for the boardwalk which is quite a feat. Aside from stunning views of the Three Sisters we were also lucky enough to see a male lyre bird doing his thing - what great mimics they are!! I could have watched him for hours. Pool time 💦 It’s hard to go out exploring when this is what you’re leaving behind!! @spicerssangomaretreat is very beautifully situated in the foothills of the Blue Mountains so makes a handy (and serene) base to explore - but tearing yourself away from the gorgeous pool area and its lovely views could be an issue!! . . . . . #spicersretreats #spicerssangomaretreat #openmyworld #myworldoftravel #visitnsw #seeaustralia #bluemountains

A prickly situation I’m not actually referring to this cute hedgehogs prickles, but to the whole pet cafe phenomenon that has swept Japan and is popping up all over the world. I was a little hesitant to go but I adore hedgehogs and had never seen one IRL so I went against my better judgement. I kinda wish I hadn’t now. Although we were given gloves and a ‘briefing’, there was really no supervision and I had to hold my tongue at the way some people, including the staff, were handling these little guys. Hedgehogs are nocturnal creatures and you could see some desperately trying to catch a few Z’s under the bright cafe lights but the cold hard reality is this is just not a fair, comfortable or healthy environment for these little guys. So knowing better now, I strongly advise against this ever growing tourism sector. In the words of Maya Angelou “Do the best you can until you know better. Osaka castle 🏯 Towering over Osaka since the late 1500’s, Osaka Castle certainly cuts an imposing figure and offers sweeping views over the city. In autumn it’s surrounded by stunning reds and yellows and in spring I can only imagine how beautiful the plum grove must be. The museum inside is an interesting glimpse into Osaka history but I’ll be honest - there are other amazing castles in Japan that have retained their unique interior where you can get a better idea of what they were really like ‘back then‘. Dear oh deer 🦌 Is there any travel hit list item Japan doesn’t have?! As well as gorgeous scenery, culture, architecture, food, and people, there’s also amazing wildlife encounters! During our time on Miyajima we loved seeing the deer roaming around. Sadly it seems they have become a little too used to tourists and are often on the scrounge for handouts.
