Tortoise and the Hare 🐢🐇 Seeing this grand old dame being overtaken by a little whipper snapper reminded me of the tortoise and the hare. While it would be thrilling to zip along at high speed there’s also something to be said for taking your time and having a chance to take in the scenery. Travel is a bit like that too. When I was young I was all for 10 countries in 10 days and cramming in as much as possible. However now I really love taking my time and having a chance to absorb the small everyday scenes and encounters that add up to a far richer experience. My last day in Queenstown started off grey and drab (although still gorgeous in any weather!) but then by lunchtime the sun had come out and it was absolutely glorious ☀️. On the rocks All along the shores of Lake Wakatipu are the most interesting rocks. I found myself wandering along looking down at the rocks instead of at the scenery! There are loads of flat ones perfect for skipping too, shame I’m an absolute numpty at that 🤭. I hope your week hasn’t been too rocky 🤪. . Spring has sprung 🌸 Queenstown is starting to bloom and soon will be awash with spring colour. The trees were starting to pop while I was there over the weekend and I couldn’t help wishing I had visited a week or two later to try and catch the full spectacle. But really, I reckon Queenstown would be stunning no matter the season! Birds eye view 🦅 I cheekily asked someone the other day “are you even a photographer these days if you don’t have a drone??” but you don’t need a drone taking off from Queenstown airport! The views over the mountains and Lake Wakatipu are divine - the hardest part is trying to decide what side of the aircraft to book your seat!! Fire on the mountain 🏔 🔥 Back to work this morning and I’m really going to miss looking out at killer mountain views. Gratitude 🤗 Being in Queenstown again has been such a delight and brings back wonderful memories of my trip here last year with my travel posse. It’s also made me think about how fortunate I’ve been to have travelled to so many spectacular places that it’s hard to pick a favourite. But no matter how spectacular the destination, my favourite holidays have been made even more spectacular with my favourite peeps. Now my favourite holidays involve getting the posse together, renting a big house in a scenic location, and laughing like hyenas over the silliest of things. Sunrise view 🙌🏻 Confession: I slept in 😴 I was meaning to get down to the lake for sunrise but I was just so warm and cosy it didn’t happen. However I did stand on my balcony and watch as it developed, slightly kicking myself I didn’t get up but glad I could get out of the cold quickly!!
